WBTV First Night Charlotte returns to ring in 2013 with a family-friendly cultural celebration taking place in Uptown Charlotte!
Begun in 1976, First Night is an alcohol-free community celebration of the New Year that is now celebrated in over 200 cities internationally. The celebration aims to advance the public’s appreciation of visual and performing arts through an innovative, diverse, and high-quality New Year’s Eve program that offers a shared cultural experience, accessible and affordable to all.
First Night Charlotte takes place on New Year’s Eve from 12pm-midnight with First Night Kids from 12-5pm at kid-friendly venues and an evening programming that runs from 8-11:30pm at various venues with the countdown to midnight from 10pm-12:30am at the main stage. With over 75,000 attendees, First Night Charlotte has grown into one of the biggest and best known events in the Southeast to visit for New Year’s Eve.
Last year’s event introduced a number of new cultural performers to First Night Charlotte, such as the Fourth Ward kid rock group Dynamo, Fireman Jim and DJ Drex’s Dance Party. Also new to the event was the Atlanta Party Band that rocked in the new year on the Duke Energy Entertainment Stage!
