The seventh annual State of the Center City report is now available. This annual report was created to highlight the growth and development of Charlotte’s urban core over the past year. In it, you will find information about Uptown, Charlotte’s Central Business District (CBD), South End, the historic West End and Midtown neighborhoods. The report features facts about transportation, residential and retail markets, arts, sports, entertainment, hospitality and transportation in Center City Charlotte. For example, did you know that:

  • The planned and under construction projects will yield enough space for 26,500 workers, 16,500 residents, 975,000 yearly overnight visitors and 88 new shops and restaurants.
  • Uptown is home to 16,500 people with 3,278 residential units under construction or completed in the past 12 months. South End is home to 9,113 people with an additional 988 residential units under construction or completed in the past 12 months.
  • Retail in Center City Charlotte continues to grow. There are 1.31 million square feet of retail in Uptown and another 540,000 square feet of retail planned or under construction. In South End there are currently 1.4 million square feet of retail with 250,000 square feet more planned or under construction.
