First Ward Urban Village

Plans are underway to redevelop 32 acres of underutilized land in the First Ward.

Plans call for a public investment of as much as $26 million in tax-increment financing from the city and county to help pay for improvements. UNC Charlotte’s new academic building will anchor the intial phase of the project with a three-acre park with underground parking as the centerpiece of the development. In July 2008, Levine Properties unveiled new plans to the city for an urban village which will include:

  • 2 million SF of office space
  • 282,000 SF of retail space
  • 2,150 residential units
  • a 3-acre park
  • a 1,500 space underground parking deck
