Charlotte Gateway Station

The Gateway Multimodal Transportation Station will be located adjacent to the Norfolk-Southern Railway in Third Ward. The station will provide seamless integration of services including Amtrak, Greyhound bus service, CATS bus and streetcar service and will act as the southern terminus for the North Corridor Commuter Rail Project. The site plan calls for 65,000 square feet of CATS office space, up to 35,000 square feet of state offices, shops, kiosks, restaurants, and a mixed-use tower that will overlook a new park. The NC Department of Transportation began acquiring property for the station development in 1998 and total acquisition of 27 acres was completed in February 2004. A 2002 feasibility study analyzed possible station and track designs and included an extensive public input process. Construction of Gateway Station depends on funding from local, state and federal sources and will be implemented in multiple phases. For more information visit ByTrain.org
