Art & Soul of South End
A day long celebration in Historic South End, returns on Saturday, June 18 from 2:00-10:00 p.m. with a full slate of activities for people to explore the edge of town. The event will allow Charlotteans and South End residents the chance to spend an entire day discovering the South End experience, including the Charlotte Rail Trail, art and design, craft breweries, shopping, food trucks and more.
Art & Soul of South End 2016 will include:
Carolina Food Truck Chow Down Presented by Budweiser
This competition, located on Camden Rd. from South Tryon St. to Tremont Ave., will feature as many as 50 food trucks from North and South Carolina, including Charlotte favorites. Professional judges will determine the winner of the $7,500 grand prize and everyone will have the chance to cast a vote for the People’s Choice award to determine their favorite food truck.
“Discover the Edge of Town” Trolley Tour – Including Craft Breweries
Free trollies will circulate throughout South End, making stops at some of Charlotte’s most popular craft breweries, including Triple C, Sycamore, Lenny Boy, Wooden Robot and Unknown. Fun, knowledgeable guides will share the South End experience with trolley riders and will highlight what makes the neighborhood unique.
South End Destinations and Lifestyle
Meander down the Charlotte Rail Trail, and stop off at neighborhood destinations—or discover new favorites. Visitors will be able to: Shop local fashion trucks, artisans and makers; browse unique paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and mosaics at a wide variety of galleries; and drink award-winning beers from The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery at a station on Camden Road.
Matador Music Mash Up
Attendees will find an eclectic mix of music throughout the day on two different stages—a main stage located at Camden Rd. and Park Ave., and an acoustic stage located at Camden Rd. and Kingston Ave.
Art & Soul of South End will feature an art show curated by the Charlotte Art League, with a compelling mix of local artists showcasing their work.
South End Community Make Day at C3 Lab
This temporary learning environment is a space where anyone can explore new technology and design, prototype and build ideas from start to finish.
The Rail Trail Experience
Unexpected things happen all the time on the Charlotte Rail Trail, and that theme continues at Art & Soul. Attendees will stumble upon new public art installations, linear yoga classes and intimate pockets of public entertainment we’re calling “Buskerpalooza.”
Queen City Jazz Festival
South End will host performances of lively jazz music that is part of the Queen City Jazz Festival.
