We are all reeling from the economic news - so much seems bleak right now. No matter how bad things get we cannot forget those among us most vulnerable - those at risk or already homeless. The sour economy, rising energy costs, rising health care costs, escalating unemployment and shortage of affordable housing all have dire consequences for those struggling to make ends meet.

| Squonk Opera's: Charlotte the Opera! November 21- 23 Spirit Square - McGlohon Theater
This is NOT your Granny's opera!
A rock, pop and jazz music score, multi-media, humor and dance all come together to create a one-of-a-kind show starring our own Queen City. Along with the Squonk Opera company, the show will feature many local artists and performers, including tap dancer Stefan Harris, national champs in spoken word poetry Slam Charlotte, Big I Xtreme Hip Hop Dancers, KineticWorks Dance Company and Latin Heritage Dance Company.

Tickets are $25 in advance (must be purchased by Nov. 24) and $30 at the door. Tickets include food from local eateries, beverages and a night full of socializing! Parking will be available for a discounted rate of $3 at Two Wachovia Center garage. The after party of this event will be held at Suite in the Epicentre. This year's musical entertainment will be Liquid Pleasure.

The Carolinas' Thanksgiving Day Parade, a tradition since 1947, is one of the largest get-togethers of Carolinians that takes place during the year. It boasts participation from both Carolinas and touches approximately half a million people from the 22-county metro area.

Construction has begun on a holiday tradition! Uptown WBT Holiday on Ice is returning to The Green Uptown.
The outdoor ice rink is set to open on November 26th at 5pm. The Green Uptown is located at 435 S. Tryon Street.
WBT Holiday on Ice will give families a place to spend time together this holiday season, lasting through January 10, 2009. Last year, nearly 20,000 people came to skate. The rink this year will provide skaters almost 5,000 square feet of ice-skating surface. Skating will cost $7.00 per person and $3.00 for skate rental. Season Passes are also available. Group events for outings, birthday parties, holiday parties or friendly get-togethers may be eligible for discounts. >>Read More |

The Friends of Fourth Ward Holiday Home Tour celebrates its 31st wonderful year with a three-day event showcasing the grand Victorians and luxury condominiums for which Fourth Ward is famous - all dressed in their holiday finery.
During tour hours, ticket-holders must redeem their tickets for tour guidebooks at the tour ticket booth at the corner of 9th & Poplar Streets in Fourth Ward. The ticket booth also will be the only location for same day ticket purchases.
