Elizabeth Avenue Opening

Elizabeth Avenue will reopen to all traffic on Friday, August 21, 2009 beginning at 9:00 a.m. when barricades and construction items are removed. Some minor work will be finished in September such as sidewalk work, irrigation, landscaping and clean up. The Elizabeth Avenue Business Corridor project, when completed in September, will create a pedestrian-friendly "main street" environment. The improvements include: - Relocating curbs to create one lane in each direction with turn lanes at signalized intersections, bike lanes between Kings Drive and Charlottetowne Avenue and on-street parking between Charlottetowne and Hawthorne Lane.

- Installing track foundation, tracks and catenary poles for future streetcar service.

- Installing wider sidewalks, tree plantings, street lighting, pedestrian-scale lighting and steel poles and mast arms for traffic signals.

- Increasing water and sewer line capacity for future development.

- Relocating overhead utilities underground.
