Carolina’s Got Art! Art has Arrived!
The Carolinas have a rich history of art and artists. During the month of October, South End gallery owner Larry Elder is celebrating both through “Carolina’s Got Art!”, a juried art exhibition featuring paintings and sculpture from artists living and working in the two Carolinas. Nearly 500 artists have entered the competition to vie for approximately 200 show spots.
The excitement begins as winners are announced at the opening reception on October 2, 2009. Cash awards totaling over $7,000 including a $2,500 Best in Show award will be presented to artists for their work selected by New York art critic Brice Brown. All artwork in the exhibition is offered for sale.
The exhibition will be held during the month of October at Atherton Mill located at 2000 South Boulevard in Charlotte’s Historic South End District and is open to the public at no charge. Because there were so many excellent entries, a second venue will soon be announced to allow more of the works to be displayed. In the world of art, this is called a Salon des Refusés, French for “exhibition of rejects”, made famous by the official Paris Salon in the mid-1800’s. In this case, not rejects, but an overflow of outstanding work by Carolina artists.
Edens & Avant, owners of Atherton Mill, are providing generous support of the visual arts in North and South Carolina and are a major sponsor of this event. Visit www.carolinasgotart.com for complete information.
