Free Workshop: Federal Money to Care for the Homeless
Private and public nonprofit agencies that provide services to Mecklenburg County’s homeless population can learn how to apply for funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at an upcoming information session.
Supporters say community agencies provide a much needed service for the estimated 5,000 to 6,500 homeless people in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Additional federal funding will help those agencies continue their work for individuals and families who want to become self-sufficient.
Mecklenburg County government will sponsor the informational session:
- Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 - 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. - Children and Family Services Building, Training Room #2 - 601 East Fifth St. (Corner of Fifth and Davidson streets) in Charlotte
Representatives from public and private non-profit agencies who attend will learn about potential financial opportunities available through HUD's Continuum of Care. Each year, organizations in Mecklenburg County apply for funding from HUD to support programs that address homelessness. Anyone from an organization interested in applying can join representatives from the Homeless Services Network. The meeting will address: - Applicant prerequisites - The application process - Grant match requirements - Other issues related to this funding
