Meineke Car Care Bowl Announces Extension with ACC Through 2013
Officials of the Meineke Car Care Bowl today announced a contract extension with the Atlantic Coast Conference for four additional years, through the 2013 college football season. After the BCS, the bowl will have the fourth selection from the conference. The ACC team will face the third selection from the Big East Conference.
College football’s first bowl game to call the Carolinas home, this year’s Meineke Car Care Bowl will take place on Saturday, December 26th at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Set to kick off at 4:30 p.m., the game will feature the Big East against the Atlantic Coast Conference.
“We are very proud to continue our relationship with the Atlantic Coast Conference for an additional four years,” said Will Webb, Executive Director of the Meineke Car Care Bowl. “The ACC has proven to be a great fit for the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Together with the Big East Conference, the ACC has made this one of the most exciting and successful bowl games in the country. The 2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl drew a sellout crowd of 73,712 fans and ranked fourth overall in attendance for bowl games this past year, behind only the BCS Championship, Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl. It has averaged over 62,000 fans each year with three sellouts in its seven years. In addition, the game has reached over 18 million television households. In 2003, it was named one of the five-best start-ups in sports over the past five years by the Sports Business Journal, behind only the NFL Houston Texans and ESPN the Magazine.
