East/West Railroad Crossing Closed for Maintenance

If you plan on riding the LYNX Blue Line this weekend, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) wants you to be aware of repair work occurring along the line that will affect your travel. Crews will be closing the railroad crossing at East/West Boulevard to install new crossing panels on the LYNX Blue Line tracks.

“High traffic volume, especially heavy vehicles, at this location has accelerated the wear and tear of the crossing panels,” said Bong Vang, Senior Engineer for CATS. “The panels will be replaced with longer, heavier duty panels that will accommodate the high traffic loads. The replacement of these panels will be completed during a single rail closure.”

Starting on Saturday, December 12 at 10:15 p.m., continuing into Sunday, December 13, the LYNX Blue Line will only operate between the I-485/South Boulevard Station and the Scaleybark Station. CATS will operate a temporary bus service connecting customers from the Scaleybark Station to Center City Charlotte. A free transfer will be issued for customers who need to transfer between the temporary bus service and the LYNX Blue Line.

The Lynx Blue Line will operate according to its regular weekend schedule for all stations between the I-485 Station and the Scaleybark Station. The northbound LYNX Blue Line trips will end at the Scaleybark Station where buses will be available for continued travel north to Center City.

Customers at the New Bern Station, the East/West Station and the Bland Street Station can board the temporary bus service at the bus stops located on South Boulevard. Customers at the Carson Station can board the bus on Carson Street. Northbound customers at the Stonewall and 3rd Street Stations can board at the bus stops on Church Street.

Southbound customers at the Stonewall and 3rd Street Stations can board the temporary bus service on Brevard Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Customers at the 7th Street Station and the Charlotte Transportation Center (CTC)/Arena Station can board the temporary bus service on Brevard Street at the CTC.

The LYNX Blue Line will resume its regular schedule first thing on Monday morning, December 14, with service provided to all transit stations. For more information on the temporary bus schedule and transit service this weekend, visit www.ridetransit.org or call 704-336-RIDE (7433).
