10 Millionth Rider on LYNX Blue Line
When K.C. Jones woke up and headed to work at Wells Fargo this morning, little did she know that she would become the 10 millionth rider aboard the LYNX Blue Line. Jones arrived at the 3rd Street Station at 8:32 a.m. As she stepped off the train, Chairman of the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners Jennifer Roberts and Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) Interim CEO John Muth greeted Jones with balloons, a LYNX hat and train replica and a one-year pass to ride any CATS service of her choice.
“I am in shock. I didn’t expect all of this, said K.C. Jones, CATS 10 millionth rider on the LYNX. Jones recently moved to Charlotte from Philadelphia, where she frequently used mass transit. “I have been riding the LYNX Blue Line for two months now and I think the rail system here is great. I enjoy the ride and the people are friendly. I’ll definitely get a lot of use out of the pass.”
Since the LYNX Blue Line opened in November 2007, daily weekday ridership has averaged approximately 15,000 riders. That’s way above the original projection of 9,100 daily weekday riders expected in the first full year of service. “Today is a great milestone for CATS,” said John Muth, Interim CEO of CATS. “We are far ahead of predictions on our light rail ridership. Citizens have found that not only is LYNX fun to ride, it’s fast, convenient and an affordable way to commute.”
