CATS Open House: Routes 74X, 88X, Gold Rush and Guaranteed Ride Home

Routes: Express & Express Plus, Gold Rush, 74X & 88X

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is hosting an open house public meeting to discuss proposed changes to express routes, Gold Rush service and other programs (see below).

If adopted, changes will go into effect on July 1, 2010. CATS encourages passengers and community members to attend the public meeting to ask questions and provide feedback on proposed service changes.

The following proposals will be discussed:

• 74X Union County Express - discontinue service between Monroe and Marshville

• 88X Lincoln County Express - discontinue service

• Gold Rush Orange Line - operate every 12 minutes

• Gold Rush Red Line - operate every 10 minutes

• Charlotte Trolley - discontinue regularly scheduled weekend service

• Guaranteed Ride Home- discontinue program

Proposed Services for Seniors

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will be holding an open house meeting on Wednesday, April 21st from 11:30am to 1:00pm to receive feedback from the public concerning the following proposed services:

Proposed Route 94 Matthews-Mint Hill service- The Matthews-Mint Hill service will connect senior residents of Matthews and Mint Hill to various retail and medical establishments.The service will provide service to senior facilities such as Lawyers Glen Retirement Center, Blessed Assurance Adult Care Facility, and the Levine Senior Center. The route will provide these communities with access to Windsor Square Shopping Center and Mint Hill Festival Shopping Center.

Proposed Route 95 Northside Shuttle – The Northside Shuttle service will connect senior residents of The Laurels in Highland Creek, Shad’s Landing, Charlotte Spring Apartments, and Lee’s Livings Center and surrounding communities to the Northlake Mall Shopping Center, to the Route 7, and other retail and medical establishments along Eastfield, Highland Creek, Prosperity Church, Old Statesville, and Reames Roads.

Route 22 Graham St. – The route will be extended to provide weekend access to seniors at the Prosperity Creek Senior Apartments for shopping, eating, medical appointments, and other desired activities.

Bus Purchase- The purchase of one 15-passenger Goshen vehicle with two wheel-chair accommodations. This vehicle will be outfitted with on-board cameras and other safety features.

Seniors-On-The-Move Travel Training Initiative – The initiative will provide Travel Training to older adults who require assistance using the fixed route bus system.

Senior and Elderly Pass Program – Transit passes will be provided to participants meeting the eligibility requirements to reduce barriers to riding. CATS has weekly/monthly unlimited ride passes specifically designated for seniors and the disabled.

CATS has applied for a 5310 grant to help fund the project. 5310 funds are designed to address senior transportation issues.
