CRM and UFS Celebrate Ground Breaking of New Women's Facility
Charlotte Rescue Mission (CRM) and United Family Services (UFS) will hold a historical event in Charlotte’s effort to help domestic violence victims and homeless women with substance abuse problems on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 10am as each agency takes the next step toward serving women in crisis. The land, affectionately called “a campus for women in crisis” will address two of Charlotte’s most pressing needs for women – domestic violence and substance abuse.
Each agency will own one half of the eleven acres of land. UFS will build a new domestic violence shelter expanding its services from 29 to 80 beds to provide safety and support for women and child victims of domestic violence. CRM will build a new long term women’s recovery program to expand its Dove’s Nest program from 12 to 90 women.
The 11 acres of land was originally purchased by CRM in 2006 for the expansion of its women’s program. Learning of UFS need to expand, CRM offered to sell one half its acreage to UFS at cost.
The joint use of the 11 acres has created a collaborative process for both agencies. Over the past 18 months, the building committees of both agencies met regularly to plan the development of the site. Each agency brought its own unique strength to the process. This partnership has brought the project to this critical juncture; moving each agency’s vision for expanded services to women in crisis closer to reality.
About Charlotte Rescue Mission Charlotte Rescue Mission provides a free 90-day Christian residential program for men and women who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and are predominately homeless.
