Carolinas HealthCare Opens Uptown Express Care
Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) has opened a new healthcare option for Uptown Charlotte employers, employees and the general public, providing care for acute medical conditions without the need for an appointment.
Called Uptown Express Care, the facility is part of an existing CHS physician practice, Mecklenburg Medical Group, which is located on the fifth floor of the BB&T building, 200 S. College St., Suite 500. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
"We feel our location, close to major Uptown employers and connected to the Overstreet Mall, will be especially convenient for businesses and their employees," said Charles B. Rich, M.D., of Mecklenburg Medical Group. "Uptown Express Care has a separate registration area from our medical practice that is designed to encourage walk-in business."
Conditions that can be treated include colds, flu, sore throats, cuts, sprains and pulled muscles. Of special interest to employers are the occupational health services that are available. They include drug screenings, pre-employment physicals and work-related injuries.
"This is a perfect new offering for the time stretched professionals of Center City," said Michael J. Smith, President & CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners. "This kind of service can help differentiate our major employment center." Among Center City businesses that support Uptown Express Care is Johnson & Wales University.
"We feel Uptown Express Care will provide an excellent resource for our students to obtain required immunizations, admission physicals, and examinations by a mid-level provider for minor physical needs," said Karen Hiney, RN, BSN, Director of Health and Counseling Services for Johnson & Wales. "It will be easily accessible to them and, since doctors who see students in the on-campus health center are part of Carolinas HealthCare System, the practice will support continuity of care for chronic health care issues."
