Large-scale Outdoor Sculptures Arrive Uptown This Saturday
In preparation for the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art’s upcoming exhibition, Niki de Saint Phalle: Creation of a New Mythology opening March 18, five large-scale outdoor sculptures created by artist Niki de Saint Phalle will be delivered via three flatbed trucks to The Green, across the street from the Bechtler.

A crane will remove the sculptures from the trucks and place the works in the park. The artwork will then be repositioned by riggers. The total weight of the five sculptures is 13,046 pounds. Four of the sculptures will arrive in one piece. La Cabeza (an oversize skull made from polyurethane foam, resin steel armature, mirrored and stained glass, glass pebbles and stones, among other materials) will arrive in two pieces and will serve as the focal point for the outdoor installation.

Artist:
Niki de Saint Phalle (French-American 1930 - 2002) was a believer in mythology and fairytales. Her work is bright and colorful, demonstrating an exuberant love of life, but at the same time revealing certain darkness.
