South End Gallery Crawl Kicks Off Summer 2011
Start your summer shopping off right to find a unique gift from a local shop and artist at the South End Gallery Crawl on Friday, July 1st! There are 14 galleries in South End and below are a few highlights for the July exhibits taking place this month. Please note, due to the July 4th weekend some galleries might not be participating in the South End Gallery Crawl so please contact them before you make plans.
As always, crawls are on the first Friday of every month. Many local restaurants and clubs are close by, so make a night of it with shopping, dinner and entertainment.
Charlotte Art League
Entries Accepted: Friday, June 24 5-8pm; Saturday June 25 11am-3pm; Sunday June 26 1-5pm
Opening Reception: Friday, July 1st, 6-9 p.m. at First Friday Gallery Crawl
Last Day of Show: Friday, July 29th
Pick up exhibited work: Saturday July 30 – Sunday July 31 (during gallery hours)
Hidell Brooks Gallery - Hidell Brooks Gallery is continuing their tradition of introducing artists rarely exhibited in the South. Come check out David Febland, Don Quade, Joan Holleb, Johan Hagaman, John Sayers, Lynn Whipple and Ron Porter. Introductions 5 Exhibit will have their open reception beginning July 8th and continuing through August 27th from 6-8pm.
Elder Gallery - On Friday, July 15th Elder Gallery in Charlotte will host an exhibition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the gallery and the artists it represents. The exhibition, Ten Years of Great Art, features paintings and sculptures and will run through August 29, 2011. Artists from the following states will be represented in the exhibition: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
Lark & Key Gallery - Lark & Key Gallery presents Second Nature, on view June 1 through July 30. Second Nature features the work of Susan Hall, Duy Huynh, Angie Renfro and introduces Dawn Rentz into the gallery’s roster of artists. Working in different styles and mediums, each artist is inspired by the natural world, whether literally or in a more abstract manner.
Gallery Ephesus- In addition to their gallery opening exhibition from 6-9pm, Gallery Ephesus will be featuring a silent movie with piano accompaniment called The Docs of New York starting at 7pm. FREE wine and popcorn! The gallery is located at 1510 Mint Street.
Throughout the year, Charlotte Center City Partners and Historic South End bring events and activities to the center of the city, including South End Soul, Presbyterian Hospital July 4th Spectacular, Time Warner Cable BBQ and Blues, First Night Charlotte presented by WBTV, the RBC Centura Tailgate and Pep Rally and the Center City Green Market.
