New Director of Economic Development Named
July 22, 2009…Michael Smith, President and CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners (CCCP) has named Tracy Finch Dodson as the new Director of Economic Development. Dodson brings expertise in various aspects of economic and real estate development and a deep knowledge of Charlotte’s Center City office market from both a public and private sector perspective.
“Tracy has already hit the ground running,” said Smith. “She understands the needs of the office brokers and the unique role Charlotte Center City Partners can play as a facilitator to grow jobs and recruit new companies to Uptown and South End.”
Dodson will also work cooperatively with the Economic Development team at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce to identify and recruit companies seeking new office space. This position will focus on enhancing visibility of Uptown and South End as the central employment center for our region. “We welcome Tracy and look forward to working with her to bring jobs and infrastructure to Charlotte”, said Bob Morgan, president of the Charlotte Chamber.
Dodson will work in tandem with the private office brokers in Uptown and South End, to provide tools and expertise to help them fill commercial space in the Center City. “Tracy Finch Dodson has the perfect combination of personality, real estate development experience, and knowledge of the inner workings of Charlotte's governmental systems to make this position her own,” said Anne Vulcano, First Vice President, Office Properties for CB Richard Ellis, Inc.’s Charlotte office. “In 6 months we probably won't know what we did without her.”
Dodson has been in Charlotte more than 17 years. She comes to CCCP from Harris Development Group LLC, where she spent time as a development manager focused on Transit Oriented Development (TOD). Prior to that, she worked in the City of Charlotte’s Economic Development Office as the Transit Station Area Development Coordinator. Dodson has also worked in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Department and as an architect for Shook Kelley focusing on mixed use and urban development.
“We are excited that Tracy Dodson is joining the Center City Partners team,” said Patrick T. Mumford, Director of Business and Neighborhood Services for the City of Charlotte. “Her experience working at the City and in the private sector makes her uniquely qualified to lead the Center City economic development strategy. We look forward to working with Tracy to ensure Center City remains a destination for businesses and residents alike.”
As a graduate of UNCC, Dodson earned a Bachelors of Architecture and Psychology, and later completed her Masters of Design Studies in Real Estate and Urban Development from Harvard University. She lives in Charlotte with her husband and German Shepard and serves on the boards of Charlotte Trolley Inc., the Executive Committee of the Charlotte Chapter of Urban Land Institute (ULI), and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission.
