Great Cookie Crumble – Saturday 8/20August 15, 2016 9:00 am
Who’s got the best sweet treat in Charlotte’s Center City? I bet you have a favorite spot and a favorite treat to “crown”. I know I do, when my diet allows!
Well, for the last 14 years, Charlotte Center City Partners has put the question to the test in front of a panel of judges at one of my favorite fun events: the annual “Great Cookie Crumble”. This year’s Great Cookie Crumble battle will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 10:00am at the 7th Street Public Market. Restaurants in Uptown and South End are submitting their best confections for judging in hopes of winning the coveted mixing bowl trophy. Stunning, yes?
This year’s panel of judges includes Kylie Moore from Charlotte Agenda, Vanessa Jones, co-owner of the Cheesecake Carousel, and Sudruddu Abdullah, co-owner of Café Ganache. Abdullah is also a former instructor at Johnson and Wales University, and two-time winner of the National Bread and Pastry Championship. Representing First Ward neighborhood on the panel will be Karie Greathouse. Fourth Ward will be represented by Brook Myers. Francene Marie, Public Affairs Director of Beasley Media Group, will act as emcee.
Restaurants entered so far include Coastal Kitchen- Hilton Center City, Cloud 9 Confections, Local Loaf, Zoe’s Kitchen, Mert’s Heart & Soul and the Doubletree Hotel. There are a bunch of past winners in that list, so game on!
But the “pro’s” don’t have all the fun! In addition to judging by the panel, the cookies will be judged in the “People’s Choice” and “Kid’s Choice” categories. Get your place in line early to make sure you have a cookie to try and judge!
Judging begins at 10AM on Saturday, August 20 for the panel. The public will start sampling and voting when the panel judging ends (probably sometime after 10:30am or so) and will end when the samples do.
Who has the best cookie in the Center City? We will all soon know!
