Located in Uptown Charlotte, the park offers fitness and cultural arts programs throughout the year. The park design is based on Bearden’s collages and paintings as interpreted by supervising artist Norie Sato. It features two gardens, a courtyard of dining tables with chairs on a bed of crushed granite, a formal event green field, a play area with interactive digital chimes including dance chimes, and several waterfalls.[4]

Fish Fountains – This is the coolest fountain in Charlotte, quite literally. There are banks of water jets in the pavement, and they fire in sequence. Each fish’s mouth also spews water in its turn. The whole routine culminates in an all-fins-on-deck water show, and then the sequence repeats. This is the perfect place for kids to splash, Spring, Summer, of Fall. There are benches for parents and grandparents to relax and enjoy the show, too. The Green itself is a charming grassy park, with lots of restaurants and other activities near by.

The GreenThe Green is a one and a half acre park at 42South Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. At one end of this so-called pocket park are the Mint Museum and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art; at the other end is the Charlotte Convention Center. Next to it stands Charlotte’s historic St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The Green is the site of various public events, such as movie screenings and free plays, including summer performances by the Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. This park is frequently the site of public art and sculpture, including three giant computer-timed fish fountains, a popular feature with children in the summer. Mosaic benches and stools are tucked away in shady side paths.

The Firebird Sculpture – Affectionately known as “Disco Chicken” by area residents, the shimmering Firebird sculpture was installed in 2009, and stands at the entrance of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art on Tryon Street. The statue stands over 17 feet tall and weighs over 1,400 pounds. The entire statue is covered from top to bottom in over 7,500 pieces of mirrored and colored glass.

Cool Globes – Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet, is a public art exhibition designed to raise awareness of solutions to climate change.  Cool Globes grew out of a commitment at the Clinton Global Initiative in 2005, and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2006.  Since that time, Cool Globes premiered in Chicago and went on tour across the country from Washington DC to San Francisco, San Diego, Sundance, Los Angeles, Houston and Cleveland.  In the fall of 2009, Cool Globes opened the first international exhibit in Copenhagen. From there our globes were in Geneva, Marseille, Vancouver, Amsterdam, Jerusalem and Boston. It is our hope that the millions of people who have experienced the exhibit, leave with a vast array of solutions to climate change, and with one clear message….we can solve this.

BLM Mural – On Tuesday, June 9, 17 local artists painted an entire Uptown block with three words: Black Lives Matter. Artists worked all day Tuesday in nearly 90 degree heat to finish the project, which runs along Tryon Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. Each artist, or artist duo in the case of Arko & Owl, painted a different letter, so each have very different styles and colors. For example, Georgie Nakima’s (@gardenofjourney) letter “M” used similar bold colors and geometric lines you’d see in her murals around the city. And in Arko & Owl’s “L” you’ll see similar three-dimensional waves that you can find at Yafo Kitchen in Plaza Midwood and Camp North End. The street mural was part of a collaboration with the City of Charlotte, Charlotte is Creative, Brand The Moth, BLKMRKTCLT, and the artists. The entire project — from idea to completion — took only a few days.

Sea Level – Evolving the concept of Sea Level NC has been a project of passion for Paul Manley for over six years. While designing and opening other successful seafood restaurants and oyster bars in The Carolinas, Paul uncovered a fundamental flaw in their business models. The safe and consistent procurement of oysters, their core offering, was volatile and subject to outside factors beyond their control. Reliance on a wild product for a signature menu item so significant that it’s in a business’ name is a threat. Their reputation and future is tied to a product that is susceptible to spoilage, disease, and sustainability issues. Paul set out to create a seafood restaurant that grew its own signature items and relied more on sustainable, local supply lines. He then spent two years networking on the North Carolina coast with aquaculture specialists, farmers, scientists, shrimpers, and other “watermen”. From these efforts he partnered with local NC oyster and clam farmers in the town of Sea Level, North Carolina to grow his own line of product, designed and harvested specifically to his restaurant standards.
