2010 Vision Plan
Much of Uptown’s growth over the past 10 years has been a result of implementing recommendations made in the Center City 2010 Vision Plan that was adopted in May 2000. The plan’s vision was “to create a livable and memorable Center City of distinct neighborhoods connected by unique infrastructure.”
Meant to serve as a blueprint for future development, the plan called for pedestrian-friendly streets, mixed-use growth, and a commitment to unique architecture of the highest standard. Specifically, the 2010 Plan highlighted several priority projects including the acquisition of land for new parks and a greenway, the redevelopment of the former convention center as a mixed-use site, and the containment of a growing government district to facilitate the creation of a new residential village. The plan also recommended producing detailed master plans for this village and other neighborhoods.
The implementation of 2010 Plan recommendations as well as subsequent plans and projects have helped to create a strong, vibrant, and exciting downtown that has gained acclaim all over the country for a superior quality of life that has attracted many new workers, residents and visitors.
