Center City Safety Ambassador Program

The Charlotte Center City Safety Ambassadors are here to serve you. We are the friendly, visible presence throughout Uptown and South End, dressed in our bright orange uniforms, engaging with everyone from business owners and visitors to residents and neighbors in need. Our mission is to ensure that Center City remains a welcoming, safe, and well-cared-for place for all, whether you live, work, or visit here.

Launched in 2018 as a hospitality and outreach initiative, the program has evolved into a safety and outreach-focused team that plays a vital role in supporting public well-being and community connection in the heart of Charlotte. Today, Safety Ambassadors are not only sources of friendly assistance but also trained partners in public safety, equipped to respond with care, professionalism, and awareness.

This transformation includes enhanced collaboration with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), new public safety training, and the introduction of updated uniforms, a branded vehicle, and outreach materials that make the Ambassadors more visible and approachable across Center City. Through ongoing team development and engagement, the Safety Ambassadors have become trusted partners in improving safety and quality of life for everyone in Center City.

To meet growing demand, the program is now doubling in size from 13 to 26 ambassadors, expanding its reach and impact across Uptown and South End.

What We Do

  • Safety: Safety Ambassadors work closely with CMPD, keeping a watchful eye, reporting public safety concerns, and helping maintain a secure environment.
  • Hospitality: Whether you are a worker, visitor, resident, or business owner, Safety Ambassadors are here to assist and ensure a positive, welcoming experience.
  • Outreach: Safety Ambassadors engage with our unhoused neighbors and those in crisis, connecting them with essential social services and support resources and partnering with organizations specifically missioned to do this work.
  • Events and Cultural Support: Ambassadors assist with sports, cultural, tourism, and special event support throughout Center City, helping ensure that community gatherings are safe and well-managed.

Hours of operation

Uptown:
Sunday: 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Monday–Wednesday: 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Thursday–Saturday: 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

South End:
Thursday-Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Look for Us

  • Bright orange uniforms and a branded vehicle make Ambassadors easy to spot.
  • “I AM HERE TO HELP!” banners and service stations are placed in Uptown and South End to guide residents and visitors
  • Ambassadors provide on-the-spot assistance with directions, event information, or safety concerns.
